Botany Survey: Cut Strip Survey on the Rifle Range
21 June @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free
Join the Steyning Downland Scheme for a special, one-off botanical survey on the Rifle Range. During autumn 2022 we worked with Rangers from the South Downs National Park to cut some test strips across areas of species-poor rank grass. The aim was to see whether this management encourages wild flowers by discouraging the growth of Tor grass. Now we need to see if it’s worked!
All botanical abilities, from newbie to experienced botanists are very welcome. You will be given a free identification guide to keep, which shows all the plants we will be looking for.
Please wear stout footwear (steep slopes), bring a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather. We will be walking in open downland so a hat is advised on sunny days. Ticks can be a problem in any long grassland on the Downs, so long trousers tucked into socks are advised.
Meet at 9.45 for a 10am start
