Explore On Foot

We have 1.5 miles of public footpath and over 2 miles of public bridleway, plus a network of informal permissive paths and Open Access Land for you to explore.

Walking Routes

Our two public footpaths are known locally as Allotment Lane and the Lower Horseshoe. By law, public footpaths are for walking only – no cycling or horse riding is permitted.

Allotment Lane starts at the tennis courts, on the junction of Mill Road and Charlton Street. Follow the track up the steep hill into Steyning Coombe, which is one of our three ancient chalk grassland meadows. At the top are spectacular views across Steyning and beyond.

The Lower Horseshoe branches off Allotment Lane at the bottom of Steyning Coombe. It winds through the Horseshoe Woods to Newham Lane, which will take you back to Steyning High Street. Look out for some huge Beech trees and perhaps a Silver Washed Fritillary butterfly in July.

Of course walkers can also use our public bridleways, and our network of permissive paths.
