Mountain Biking

The Steyning Downland scheme offers an exceptional opportunity for mountain bikers of all ages and skills to enjoy local trails set in the woodland near Steyning.

There are a number of trails with varying degrees of difficulty, carefully planned, built and maintained by local volunteers and riders.

We promote a high health and safety standard and request all riders, wear cycle helmets and always walk the trails before riding them.

In addition we promote courteous cycling which includes giving consideration for bridleway users such as horses, dogs and families.

Cycling UK and the British Horse Society have been working together on improving awareness and have produced a short video, which you can view below:

If you would like to be involved with maintaining the trails, please do contact us.

We have a Mountain Bike Statement, agreed by a weide range of groups involved, which sets out a plan of action to make the mountain bike area safer for all users. Local mountain bikers attend our Steering Group and we walk the rides and jumps every six months, reviewing their condition and updating a schedule of maintenance works for the months ahead.
